Card Clicks: VanDerveer Says Pac-12 Deserves More Respect

Tara VanDerveer takes issue -- and rightly so -- with ESPN analyst Carolyn Peck's suggestion that Duke might be more deserving of a No. 1 overall seed than Stanford because the Blue Devils play in the ACC. Puh-lease. | SF Chronicle

Tara is completely correct
It’s too bad that Stanford doesn’t play Duke this year (like a few years ago). What I’ve seen from Duke recently is that, barring that Final Four run a few years ago, they get a high seed, and then fizzle mightily in the early rounds. And she is totally in the right in saying that Cal is a top-25 team and is really, really good. They’re the only team, other than Tennessee, that has put a scare in Stanford at home the past four years. And that’s including UConn.
As for the meme page, I was laughing at a lot of those last night. They’re skewed younger with references to the Axe & Palm and the Circle of Death (as opposed to the Intersection of Death), but they’re still pretty good.

Here's my favorite part:
“(VanDerveer) pointed out that the No. 22 Tar Heels (17-5) are ranked even though they lost to Connecticut by 51 and Duke by 40 and their RPI is 101st in the country. ’That’s crazy,’ she said.”
Yes it is.

The east coast bias...
Is alive and well. Lest any of you thought it was fading away, this ACC nonsense should remind everyone it’s still going strong. Go PAC-12!!!

Twitter is amazing
This is in response to a tweet by C&R referencing the Chronicle story:
CAROLYN PECK @CAROLYNPECK
@StanfordWBBBlog No disrespect 2 Stanford but the ACC has 4 teams in the top 10 & total of 6 in top 25. Committee has 2 consider that.
