Cal - UW
I am not typically a Monday morning QB, but I do like to give our criticism when I think it is due. Cal’s OC or Jeff Tedford did a poor job of play calling when Cal was threatening to potentially tie the game at Montlake last saturday.
I guess two dive attempts is textbook stuff but terribly unimaginative. But on fourth down throwing a fade into the end zone?? Talk about low percentage football. On the other hand for UW Coach Sark on third and short made a nice call - even the announcers were impressed.

I hate to be the guy that endlessly corrects folks on the Interwebs, but I have to be that kind of guy.
Cal didn’t call two dives. In fact, the three running plays on that last goal-line series were designed to use Sofele’s speed and elusiveness. The first play almost worked, and Sofele got the ball inside the 1. The next two plays were designed to stretch the Washington defense along Cal’s right, but they failed because of poor blocking/decision making.
The question that was debated on CGB was whether it would have been more prudent to use the short-yardage back (Anderson) in that siituation and do a hard run up the middle, instead of using the finesse back (Sofele) on outside read running plays.
Carry on.
Being an Old Blue means never accepting success.
